Different Types of Microdosing Regimens

Introduction

Microdosing shrooms is the act of consuming small amounts of psychedelics substances, such as magic mushrooms, semi-regularly with the goal of achieving some of the benefits of the substances, such as more focus, energy, and emotional balance without the hallucinogenic effects. You can basically start microdosing mushrooms using any of the available products such dried shrooms, edibles such as shroom chocolate bars, although it is usually easier if you use microdose capsules that are specifically designed for this use-case.

How to microdose

It’s worth repeating the simple steps to follow when microdosing for the first time:

  1. Determine the most appropriate first-time microdose for you. See our introduction to microdosing article for more information about a good starting place for a microdose taking into account your size and previous experience with psychedelics. If you’re new to microdosing it’s likely better to err on the side of caution and start with a smaller dose, particularly if you’re concerned about the potential hallucinogenic effects.
  2. Take your first dose. Take your first dose in the morning on a day where you don’t have any major obligations and there are not any children present.
  3. Pay close attention to its effects. Sit back, relax and observe the effects. We recommend taking a log throughout the day to track how you’re feeling. Note: the length of the impacts of each microdose experience will vary depending on the substance.
  4. Adjust if necessary. Note whether or not the first time you achieved your desire results if you did you found the ideal dose. If not, adjust accordingly.
  5. Proceed with a regular microdosing regimen.

Microdosing Regimens

Once a person has decided to try microdosing and has educated themselves on the substance they would like to try and have familiarized themselves with the process of microdosing the next step is to determine which microdosing regimen is right for them.

There are a few different approaches when it comes to microdosing and here we will explore three of them.

Dr. Fadiman’s Approach (1 microdose every 3 days)

Dr. Fadiman, a psychedelics expert, recommends taking a single microdose every 3 days (ie. taking two days off between doses) in order to prevent changes to tolerance over time. According to Dr. Fadiman, you experience the full effects of the microdose the first day, the second day the effects you experience are less pronounced and by the third day, you experience no effects at all. Having a day where you experience no effects is an opportunity for rest and reflection. It gives you the opportunity to effectively contrast how you’re feeling and the impacts of the microdose on your brain and body.

This microdose schedule would look as follows:

Week 1: Mon/Thu/Sun
Week 2: Wed/Sat
Week 3: Tue/Fri
Week 4: Mon/Thu/Sun

Some people may start with this approach as a beginner to microdosing and then change to another method after a few weeks. When a person is more familiar with the impacts of microdosing and more fully understand how to microdose for the specific benefits they may choose to microdose more or less than in this approach.

Workaholic’s Approach (weekdays on, weekends off)

This approach to microdosing is geared towards people looking for improvements at work. In other words, looking to achieve, an increase in focus, attention, logic, analytical thinking, etc. The weekends are taken off to allow time for recovery and return to baseline, rest and reflect.

This microdose schedule would look as follows:

Week 1: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri
Week 2: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri
Week 3: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri
Week 4: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri

Note: If you’re new to microdosing the first time you take a dose should be on a day when you’re not working to test the best personal dose for microdosing.

Balanced Approach (every other day)

This dosing schedule is called a balanced approach because microdoses are taking a dose every second day. For some, this may be a more helpful approach than Faidman’s as it’s easier to keep track of dosing every second day, though there may be no ‘rest’ days. Also, it’s important to note that some people experience compounding effects with this method – meaning they are still experiencing the effects of one dose when they take the next so the effects are more profound.

This microdose schedule would look as follows:

Week 1: Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun
Week 2: Tue/Thu/Sat
Week 3: Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun
Week 4: Tue/Thu/Sat

What dose to start at when microdosing?

Typically a microdose is 1/20 to 1/10  of a recreational dose of whatever substance they are trying and adjust based on their experience.  If you are experiencing visual effects, you have taken too much. This is 100-400 mg (milligrams) of psilocybin mushrooms, or 5-10 micrograms of LSD, slightly more (7-12 mcg) of 1p-LSD.

We offer a variety of different size microdose capsules that are specifically designed for this. We also provide custom capsule sizes, just contact us. Be sure to check out our promotions to get the best value.

Tracking Your Experience

An important part of microdosing is thoroughly tracking your experience. This information will be valuable to determine the overall impacts and effectiveness of microdosing as well as provide information that may be necessary to adjust the dose over time.

Those who are beginners to microdosing may not know where to start when it comes to tracking their experience. Of course, you should record the date, time, and amount of each dose, but more importantly, you should take note of the impacts on your body, brain, and overall functioning. So here is some information that you should record:

  1. Body: Take the time to consider the physical impacts on your body. Take note of how aware (or not aware) you are of your body. After doing this, pay specific attention to any sensations in your body, you may want to close your eyes and take a deep breath to focus your attention on your body.
  2. Overall outlook: Consider how microdosing is impacting your overall outlook. Are you more positive or negative? Optimistic or pessimistic? More fearful/guarded or open?
  3. Social: Consider how microdosing is impacting your interactions with others, this is more than if you’re feeling more or less social. Consider how you’re expressing your thoughts and feelings as well as how it’s impacting your speech and your facial expressions. Do you notice you’re talking/interacting differently with various people in your life? (consider friends, family, co-workers and strangers)
  4. Mental: Consider how microdosing impacts your thoughts and take notice of the thoughts running through your mind. Are your thoughts similar or different from typical? Do you notice have more of fewer thoughts? Is your mind more clear or more cluttered?
  5. Emotional: Pay attention to your feelings when you’re microdosing. Do they take on different qualities than before? Consider whether or not you’re experiencing more or fewer feelings than usual as well as how quickly you notice yourself processing these feelings.
  6. Capabilities: Many people microdose to improve particular areas of functioning, such as focus or creativity. So, it’s important to pay attention if you’re experience changes in these areas. Consider whether or you feel more capable of completing particular tasks. Particular areas to focus on are; attention span, problem-solving ability, empathy, creativity, and physical acuity.

Microdosing Mushrooms

What is microdosing?

Microdosing mushrooms is the act of consuming an unnoticeable amount of a psychedelic mushrooms. Unnoticeable meaning the dose doesn’t create the hallucinogenic effects associated with psychedelics. It is the administration of doses so low that they will not provide a full body effect but high enough for a cellular response and positive change. This, of course, does not mean there are no benefits.

Microdosing psilocybin is reported to have both short term and long term benefits for individuals. Those who incorporate microdosing into their regular wellness routine report higher levels of creativity, more energy, increased focus, and improved relational skills.

Microdosing can have a wide range of benefits; to list a few:

  • To increase the frequency and intensity of desirable states, such as; creativity, energy, productivity/focus,   and improved relationships/increased empathy.
  • To reduce symptoms and frequency of symptoms related to mental illness. Such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD and addictions.

Research on microdosing mushrooms

There are more and more research being approved for therapeutic use of magic mushrooms at higher doses for treatment of a variety of mental illnesses; that being said, there are now an increasing number of studies being conducted on the impacts and benefits of microdosing.

Eminent psychedelic researchers have found positive effects on mood disorders and anxiety. In fact, The Beckley Foundation is spearheading the push for the legalization of psilocybin mushrooms, backed by long-term positive effects found in their research conducted on treatment-resistant depression patients.

Addictions, such as smoking, can also be overcome with psilocybin. Researchers at Johns Hopkins reported an 80 percent abstinence rate among a group of longtime smokers who took psilocybin as part of their therapy.

Aside from psychological issues, mushrooms have been found to be  “comparable to or more efficacious than most conventional medications” in treating cluster headaches. Many people have experienced extended periods of remission after taking them.

How to microdose shrooms

Take a microdose once every three days. For most people, morning is the best time because the beneficial effects will last throughout the day and because nighttime microdosing could interfere with sleep.

Therefore; take a microdose on Day 1. Then do not microdose on Day 2 or Day 3. Then, take another microdose on Day 4.

Taking a dose every day isn’t recommended.  Using psychedelics, such as psilocybin, can create a tolerance, therefore you might see diminishing returns. Additionally, the fact that positive effects can often be felt many days after a microdose is a good reason to space out your doses. In other words, microdosing every day is unnecessary because the impacts last for several days already.

Although this is the most popular method for microdosing, there are also other microdosing regimens which you can read about them here.

During this time it’s important to observe and record the effects. Take notes on both short-term, in-the-moment effects, and long-term changes in your mood, energy, and social behavior. Be sure to observe the effects of microdosing on the two days between doses. Many people perceive increased feelings of creativity, and energy the day after they microdose, as well as the day of microdosing.

Ideally, you should follow your usual routine while microdosing as the purpose is to enhance your day-to-day existence by integrating microdose into your routine. However, when you try microdosing for the first time, take a day off from work and social commitments. It will give you a chance to observe and notice any unusual effects before microdosing in a more public situation.

Continue the process of microdosing two times per week for several weeks. Also, you should only microdose for a few weeks to a month then take a break as this also has the potential to impact your tolerance by requiring a higher dose to see the same impacts. It’s best to view microdosing as an occasional advantage, rather than a consistent go-to or requirement.

Best microdosing mushrooms Dosage

As with most of substances, there is no universal dose for microdosing shrooms. A typical mushroom microdose is roughly 100-350mg. However, there are many factors that influence the best dose for a particular individual including body weight, tolerance, and  and previous experience with psychedelics.

So, when microdosing psilocybin for the first time it’s important to start smaller (100mg) and monitor the impacts and adjust accordingly.
